MTA vs Connecticut Football Club (CFC)
In the first game at US Club Nationals MTA faced off against fellow ECNL club Connecticut Football Club. CFC was the Connecticut State Cup Champions and they had two wins at the Region I Championships with their only loss coming in a 1-0 defeat to Region 1 Champions, Soccer Association of Columbia United Premier (MD).
It was 105 degrees at game time and the MTA girls came out on fire. Lydia Sutton scored on a shot from 35 yards in the 7th minute to take the lead. The girls continued to press in the opening minutes but a collision with an MTA forward and the CFC goalie caused a 10 minute stoppage in the play. After the re-start CFC scored two goals in quick succession off of corner kicks to take the lead and the momentum. CFC pressed MTA in for the remainder of the first half but they were unable to score and the first half finished with CFC leading 1-2.
MTA adjusted will to CFC's 3-4-3 system in the second half and controlled the play for a majority of the second half. MTA were rewarded with the equalizing goal with 15 minutes left in the game on another shot from distance. This time it was right back Jennie Scisslow with the long strike. MTA continued to press for the win and they had a goal disallowed, correctly, off of a set piece. CFC broke through MTA's high press with 5 minutes left, but MTA goalie, AJ, came up with a huge double save on the CFC forward.
The game finished tied 2-2.
Tomorrow MTA faces BRYC from Virginia.
