The MTA 94 Blue girls made history again, by qualifying for USYSA Nationals. The team qualified by being runner-ups at the recent Region II Midwest Regionals.
The girls finished first in their group by defeating Toro Bravo(NE) 1-0 in a very hard fought game. On day two they beat CKFC(KY) 3-0 in windy affair that saw both teams create chances. In their final group game versus Iowa Rush the girls knew that a tie would advance them to the region semi-finals. MTA scored their first goal 1 minute and 20 seconds into the game and advanced with a convincing 4-0 win.
In the semi-finals they faced KCFC Heat(KS) a team that beat them 2-1 earlier in the year. MTA came out with a dominating first half, although they had much of the possession and created chances the game still stood at 0-0. As the game wore on both teams fatigue showed and the quality chances dwindled. MTA was able to dig down deep in overtime to score the only goal of the game for a 1-0 win. With NSA Premiers(IL) win on the adjacent field, the MTA girls new that they had just punched their ticket to Nationals, regardless of the finals result. NSA had already secured their birth to nationals by finishing second in the USYSA National League. In the regional final MTA fell to a very good NSA team 3-0. It as a great week for the 94 Blue team and we wish them luck at Nationals.
